Phil Hughes, a member of South Australia, was hit violently in the head by a ball after the pitch of a rival from New Wales. The match was valid for the Sheffield Shield.

After the blow, Phil Hughes staggered for a moment before collapsing. The doctors gave him first aid in the field for half an hour and then he was evacuated by helicopter.

A spokesman for St. Vincent Hospital, where the player had an emergency operation, said Phil Hughes "is still in critical condition."

Phil Hughes, 25, who was called to join the Australian cricket team, was placed in an induced coma and, due to bleeding, was treated by doctors to save his brain.
